The Wii (pronounced as the pronoun we), IPA: wii is the fifth home video game console released by Nintendo. The console is the direct successor to the Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic than that of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3. It competes with both as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems.

A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect acceleration in three dimensions. Another is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode.

The Xbox 360 launched with a number of games. The Xbox 360 best selling game for 2005, call of duty 2, sold over a million copies. Only five other games sold this amount in the Xbox 360 first year in the market; Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,Dead or Alive 4, Saints Row and Gears of War. Gears is also the 360's currently best selling game with close to 4 million copies sold. First-party developer Rare had two games at launch: Perfect Dark Zero, which was Rare's first major commercial success after their acquisition by Microsoft; and was believed by some to be the console's flagship launch title; and Kameo: Elements of Power.

The PlayStation 3 itself is convex on its right side (when vertical, top side when horizontal) and has a glossy black finish. It features a slot loading 2x speed Blu-ray Disc drive for the loading of games and DVD or Blu-ray movies. It originally was available with hard drives of 20 and 60 GB. The 20 GB has since been discontinued, and an 80 GB model introduced in some regions (see above). Inside, the PlayStation 3 uses the seven core IBM designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU. While graphics processing is handled by the NVIDIA RSX which can output resolutions up to 1080p, the PlayStation 3 has 256 MiB of main memory and 256 MiB of video memory for the RSX.
